Akshaya Patra organizes Youth Ambassador Program

Akshaya Patra, a globally acknowledged nonprofit organization strives to eliminate the ills like like child Malnourishment, deficiencies of calories and other essential nutrients, child mortality and illiteracy in India. With the vision of serving the underprivileged sections of the society, the organization aims that ‘No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger.’ In a short span of time, Akshaya Patra Foundation has garnered considerable success in eliminating hunger and poverty and is considered as one of the most effective NGOs.

Akshaya Patra is looking for passionate, motivated and dedicated youth activists who are willing to work for the noble cause and expand the reach of Akshaya Patra. The junior and high school students living anywhere in the United States are eligible to apply for this voluntary role.  It is a great opportunity for the young leaders to develop new skills and enhance their leadership, networking and public presentation skills.  The voluntary efforts can bring about a major change in the lives of over 1.4 million unprivileged children in India.

The role of the youth ambassador includes making presentations to motivate and enroll new donors and help Akshaya Patra build a grassroots movement in the US. It also involves using virtual classrooms to learn skills in public speaking, networking, donor cultivation and fundraising. The goal of $1800 is set for the youth ambassador to be considered as a graduate. The application procedure for Admission is on a rolling basis and the applicants can apply any time. The Virtual youth ambassador academy provides an opportunity to enhance one’s skills with the training on all the qualities and essentials for becoming a successful Ambassador for Akshaya Patra. Community service credit, references and letters of recommendation are provided to the qualifying graduates along with the opportunity to participate in a service trip to Akshaya Patra’s school meal program in India.


Akshaya Patra Reviewed as Best NGO

The Akshaya Patra Foundation
was reviewed as the ‘Best NGO’ title at the prestigious 14th Mother Teresa Awards 2014. The event was held at The Loyola College of Business Administration (LIBA). Konijeti Rosaiah, the Governor of Tamil Nadu presented the award to Akshaya Patra Foundation. This award is presented every year to the organizations based on their efforts for social welfare and activities under the category of corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The event was attended by various renowned eminent personalities like Dr.P.Srinivasan MD, Jeevan Blood Bank; Mr. N. Vital, former Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Govt of India and Chairman Mother Teresa Award committee; Fr.N.Casmir Raj, Founder and President, LIBA; and Dr.T.A. Sivasubramaniam, Director, LIBA. Madhu Pandit Dasa, Chairman, Akshaya Patra Foundation said, “It is a great moment of pride for Akshaya Patra Foundation. It feels great to support such noble causes and work for the welfare of society.”

The sincere efforts and commitment of Akshaya Patra Foundation to work for the welfare of society and its contribution towards social causes were acknowledged in the form of ‘Best NGO Award.’ The organization was honored for its great causes and vision to eliminate the prevailing social ills hunger, malnutrition, child mortality, illiteracy and poverty in India. Various NGOs were analyzed based on several parameters like their annual spending, history & past events, commitment to their causes and the impact of their CSR activities.  Based on this criteria, a few organizations were short listed by a team of six researchers from LIBA. The final decision was taken by an esteemed awards committee comprising of a select jury and experts who presented the Mother Teresa Award 2014 across several categories.
