How can you avail this tax exemption? As an NGO, Akshaya Patra is registered under section 35AC of the Income Tax Act 1961. Hence, every donation above Rs 500 made to the Foundation is eligible for a 100% tax exemption under Section 80GGA. So, if you make a donation of a minimum of Rs 500, you can avail this benefit. The receipts acknowledging the donation will be sent to you within 10 days of making the donation – the tax certificate is generated within six days and reaches you within 10 days. The good Samaritans outside of India, who wish to donate to the Foundation need not worry either. Non-resident Indians (NRIs), holding an Indian passport too are eligible for 100% tax exemptions under the aforementioned sections of the Income Tax Act.

Akshaya Patra Reviewed as Best NGO

was reviewed as the ‘Best NGO’ title at the prestigious 14th Mother Teresa Awards 2014. The event was held at The Loyola College of Business Administration (LIBA). Konijeti Rosaiah, the Governor of Tamil Nadu presented the award to Akshaya Patra Foundation. This award is presented every year to the organizations based on their efforts for social welfare and activities under the category of corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The event was attended by various renowned eminent personalities like Dr.P.Srinivasan MD, Jeevan Blood Bank; Mr. N. Vital, former Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Govt of India and Chairman Mother Teresa Award committee; Fr.N.Casmir Raj, Founder and President, LIBA; and Dr.T.A. Sivasubramaniam, Director, LIBA. Madhu Pandit Dasa, Chairman, Akshaya Patra Foundation said, “It is a great moment of pride for Akshaya Patra Foundation. It feels great to support such noble causes and work for the welfare of society.”

The sincere efforts and commitment of Akshaya Patra Foundation to work for the welfare of society and its contribution towards social causes were acknowledged in the form of ‘Best NGO Award.’ The organization was honored for its great causes and vision to eliminate the prevailing social ills hunger, malnutrition, child mortality, illiteracy and poverty in India. Various NGOs were analyzed based on several parameters like their annual spending, history & past events, commitment to their causes and the impact of their CSR activities.  Based on this criteria, a few organizations were short listed by a team of six researchers from LIBA. The final decision was taken by an esteemed awards committee comprising of a select jury and experts who presented the Mother Teresa Award 2014 across several categories.
